The Private Market, step by step.

Registration

Register and verify, once.

• Anyone can browse the register and read each car's full description without an account.
• To bid, create a free account and confirm your email address.
• Upload a passport or driving licence for a short identity check. Verification is needed once, not for every car.
• Once verified, you can bid on any open car on the register.

Bidding

Private bids, sealed until the close.

• Each car shows its closing date. Cars are marked Coming soon, Open or Ending soon as that date approaches, and accept bids at every stage.
• Enter your figure and submit. Your bid is a binding offer to buy at that amount if accepted.
• Nobody else sees your bid or your identity. You only see your own standing, for example second place.
• You can raise your bid at any time before the close. Your standing updates as other bids arrive.

Fees

One clear buyer's fee.

• A buyer's premium of 2.5% of your bid, with a minimum of £500, is added to a successful bid.
• VAT at 20% is charged on the premium only, not on the car.
• The fee, VAT and total payable are shown as you type your bid, before you submit.
• There is no charge to register, verify or bid. You only pay if you win.

Winning

If yours is the leading bid.

• When bidding closes, Hunt & Hammer review the bids and contact the successful bidder directly, usually within one working day.
• You receive an invoice for the winning bid plus the buyer's premium and VAT. Please wait for our invoice before paying.
• Funds are settled through Hunt & Hammer. The car is released once payment has cleared.
• Collect from London or the seller's location, or we can arrange covered delivery at cost, including export.
